Wow, this is my 4th pickup (1st set) offering from Kris at Pegcity Pickups, & golly they deliver in spades. I needed something for my battered/resurrected 79 gibson LP, & after 4 other sets prior over the past 6 years of owning it, these 2 strokes swung a home run.
The last set i had in the guitar were great for what they are & can deliver, however this 79 feels a little stubborn in its right when it comes to what it needs to properly sing. My set has the neck pickup wound slightly under 8k & the bridge is a hotter 9k, but don't let that difference push you off from trying a set of 2 strokes - they are super well balanced. The neck is very clear, full but not muddy/muffled, & the bridge has the bite you'd expect for those classic Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Thin Lizzy tones (amongst other famous acts, too many to name), yet have some girth around its tone to not be shrill/piercing. They both sit just right, & blend nice together - my 79 has a push pull on the neck volume & its down position is wired out of phase when both pickups are active. I love that cocked-wah kinda of tone i get from it (running through phase 100, tremolo, chorus, & various dirt pedals if not from my amp itself), & the pickups sing!
One error on my part prior to ordering, is i should've gone with the standard Gibson spacing for the bridge pickup - but it don't bother me none, it's all visual for the most part. (most other pickup brands with an F space bridge pickup sat right under the strings). Regardless of my own fluke, these pickups are far from being one themselves. They clean up nicely too (depending on the level of gain you got running). But my 79 is pretty much in the realm of hard rock 70's-early 80's. I've got other guitars for the heavier music. Aside from a fret swap i'll need to perform on my LP (from jumbos to smaller width & taller height frets), this guitar has never felt, & sounded better. It's strung with 11-52, I what a glorious thing.
Thanks a bunch Kris & Pegcity Pickups, couldn't've asked for a better early Xmas gift to myself & my 79!
